An Introduction

Alex.jpg The purpose of this blog is simple. Our 10-minute film, that took 3 years to make, is beginning to screen at film festivals around the world and everyone involved in the making is very interested in hearing back from the audience.

As writer and director of One Rat Short I set out to make a CG film that looked and felt our own. I wanted to create a dark gritty world with Film Noir undertones and an alternate universe that was sterile and white. I didn’t want to create brightly colored characters that acted and spoke like humans because that’s just not me. I wanted the challenge of telling a good story without using anthropomorphic animation. Although I enjoy laughing as much as anybody, I wanted to make an animated film that touched the human heart in a bittersweet way.

It looks pretty amazing. As a pet rat lover and owner I am always waiting for rats to be properly captured on film. They are creatures that at once terrify some, while to others they embody the spirit of joy. I'm very eager to see this film. I like what see in the trailer very much.

If you have a chance to see this film at any of the festivals, please do. It really is one of the most original and interesting pieces in the animation genre.

I am extremely proud to have been involved in such a unique project.

Alex, I really enjoyed the film. Very well executed, beautifully shot. The camera work was what caught me the most. Very intimate, in an almost voyeuristic way. Also..very sweet frame compositions. It has a lot of feeling and it definetly moves you. I am both proud and thankful of having the chance to work with all the talented chrlx guys on this piece. Good things awaits this studio and this short is a hint of whats coming. Keep it up.

Congratulations to Director Alex Weil and the wonderfully talented team of employees at Charlex. One Rat Short is an amazingly artistic piece of CG entertainment. Gold standard. Good luck on the festival tour - GO RATS!

Alex,

What an amazing experience. The lighting and settings of the mood marry so well to the storyline. I love the contrast between all the elements. Light and dark, gritty and pristine. Well done.

I am a rat lover, I've only had rats as pets in my entire life. I was told about this movie from my husband, who's currently at Siggraph in Boston, I can't wait to see it but, when will the rest of the mortals be able to watch this award winning movie? Or is it just a privilege for the geeks? -just kiddin'- Please inform! I'm in LA.
